After seventeen year-old Tyler is publicly outed to the congregation of his dad's church, he is forced to negotiate his burgeoning sexuality with his Dad's theology as a fundamentalist Christian pastor. Following a reckless sexual decision at Youth Camp, Tyler is chaperoned home by his youth pastor, Chris, to face his dad. The impending argument leaves no stone unturned, as the very foundation of their relationship is tested.
This is a mourning play. It isnât vindictive, it isnât passing judgement. it isnât making a statement on morality. Iâve tried to write every character from where they are, as honestly as I know how. This is a play that tries to take the word âcoexistâ off a carâs bumper sticker and ask what that really means. Itâs a play about the distance between loving and affirming. Itâs a play where no one can get what they truly want. Itâs a play about a relationship thatâs lost something worth mourning.
